I just thought that this topic would help everyone who would want to get a job thats why I'm posting it here. So, do you have any suggestions on the do's and don't's while your having a job interview? Some people tend to forget that they are in a job interview, and before they can make a good first impression, they already ruined their chances of getting the job because of their lack of manners and inappropriate behavior while having the interview.
Okay, I have some suggestions. For starters, when your introducing yourself, don't forget to shake the employer's hand. Be sure to shake hands lightly, and calmly. Don't apply too much pressure. Make them feel that your a confident person. Remember, first impressions last. the way you present yourself to people would be the way they would percieve you. I hope this tip helps out. This one helped me in the past, If you think of any other suggestions, feel free to write it here. This topic is intended to help everyone, so feel free to also add some of your criticisms or things that did not work for you on your last job interview.
Great tip! Also, do as much research about the position as you can before you go for the interview. Be on time, and I can't stress this enough), look professional. Sweatpants or jeans, unkempt hair and B.O. definitely won't land you any jobs.
Another thing I thought about, make the person feel important. Ask what you can help with or what you can contribute to the company. Don't be self centered and use your blindness as a center of your job interview. Concentrate on the question, talk clearly, be straightforward ans specific. Think positive, and don't show that your nervous. Make a good impression out of yourself. Act confident, and give your boss the impression that you really want to get the job. Another thing, don't ask about the salary because when you ask about your hourly pay at a job interview, your interviewer will think that your just in it for the money. You can ask about this question later when you get hired for the job, but for now, just concentrate on getting the job.
I'm actually studying this in class, so might be good to talk about it while it's fresh in my mind. Another good tip I'll add here, since most of the really important ones were already said is, make sure to take your resume with you. Also it's good to have more than one copy should something hapen to the original. Also it would be helpful to have one located online somewhere so that an employer can look at it at his or her convenience.
Also, be prepared for any kind of question. Many times now a days, and employer will ask calm questions just to test you, so always keep your guard up, and be prepared to answer any type of question they might ask, because you'll never know what they will do.
During the job interview, bring up your blindness and how you'll dela with things during the job. The employer is thinking about it and has questions, even if he/she doesn't or won't ever ask them. Your job is to make them feel confident that you as a blind person can do the job and anticipate some of the questions they have, address them, then provide answers tto them.
